Frequently asked questions

A few answers to help you take the next step.

What if I do not know which career I want?

Start with what you enjoy: making things, fixing problems, building, vehicles or technology. Use the interest filters, open a few careers and save the ones that catch your attention. You do not need to choose a career today.

Do I need a four-year degree for these careers?

Many skilled careers have routes through technical certificates, apprenticeships or training on the job. The right route depends on the occupation and employer. Open a career overview to explore training options, then ask the provider which qualifications its program prepares you for.

Can I get started while I am still in high school?

You can start exploring now. Ask your school counselor about career and technical education classes, dual enrollment, school tours and career experiences. Availability and eligibility vary by school and program, so check before applying.

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship combines paid work with related instruction while you learn a trade alongside experienced professionals. Application dates, entry requirements and employer arrangements vary. The career overviews link to apprenticeship providers where relevant.

How do I find a Florida training program and what will it cost?

Open a career and look under Florida training options for direct school and apprenticeship links. Most options in this collection are in Northeast Florida. Ask each provider for current tuition, fees, tools, exam costs, class schedules and available aid before comparing programs.

Are the Florida pay figures starting salaries?

No. The figures are Florida median annual wages from BLS for May 2025. Median means half of workers earn less and half earn more. The data includes workers at different experience levels, and each card names the occupation used. Actual pay varies by employer, location, experience and hours worked.

Can I try a career before choosing a training program?

Ask your teacher or youth program leader about a WareWorks Mobile Workshop experience. You can also ask the training providers listed here about tours, demonstrations or introductory experiences. Check which activities are available and any age requirements before planning a visit.

How do saved careers work?

Select Save on a career card, then use My saved careers to view your list. When browser storage is available, your choices stay in that browser on that device. They do not sync with Career Pathway or another device. Clearing browser data may remove them; if storage is unavailable, saves last only while the page stays open.

About the Florida pay data and career sources

Florida pay and employment: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS), May 2025 state estimates. The figures on this page use Florida records only. View May 2025 state wage data on the BLS website and select Florida.

Median is the midpoint: half of workers earn less and half earn more. Pay varies by location, employer and experience. Annual wage estimates generally reflect full time work of 2,080 hours per year; actual earnings depend on hours worked. The survey excludes self-employed workers. Employment totals describe estimated workers, not available jobs. No state growth projection is implied.

Each salary is tied to the specific occupation named on its card. Broader fields such as culinary arts and CAD include other roles with different wages. Their figures here represent restaurant cooks and architectural/civil drafters respectively. Space and aerospace uses aerospace engineering and operations technicians; rail uses rail car repairers; solar uses photovoltaic installers; and construction and sitework uses construction laborers. These figures do not represent every job in those industries.

This is a starting collection of skilled careers to explore in Florida, not a complete statewide directory. Career descriptions and general entry routes are adapted from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook. Its profiles describe occupations nationally. Local training, licensing and hiring requirements vary.

Interest categories help you browse; they do not assess your abilities or decide which careers you can pursue.

Florida training options start with relevant school leads assembled by WareWorks, checked against official provider pages.
